[Anyway, sometime on Wednesday, Susato can be found in the kitchen, pouring some water into a bowl covered with cloth. If Kaeya comes in with fish, however, she's sure to look up and notice.]
[ a proud catch! kaeya has a jaunty step as he makes his way into the kitchen, setting down a rickety-looking bucket and a pole. around his neck, a white ermine is perched, leaning over precariously to try and sniff at the fish inside of said bucket. they're all very much dead, the water mostly there to keep them as fresh as possible until he'd returned to the hotel. ]
Ah, seems I've got some company. What are you up to?
Considering the state of the food here when I first looked, that's a perfect idea. Preservation will be our good friend if we need it. And before that, it'll keep everything from tasting so bland, well done yourself.
[ he sighs as he joins her at the counter, peering into the bucket. ]
It'd be much easier if I could simply freeze them. We'd be able to keep them around longer... what a pain.
Yes. Mr. Lowell and I made some fresh bread, but without salt the flavor was rather lacking. . .
[She glances at the bucket.]
Are you familiar with refrigeration, sir? I only ask because many here are not. There is a unit in this very kitchen. It is capable of keeping food cold.
[ it's a lovely day for an execution and by lovely we mean absolutely terrible. mr. kotetsu kaburagi is in good hands, however, and it's best not to hover over him just yet when there are so many people taking his care in hand. so instead, kaeya with polaris in his wolf form are taking a long walk by the bubble.
of course, a rogue susato stands out in the dark and what bioluminescence illuminates the area. ]
[She's out by herself, Ryutaro in hare form curled up on her shoulder, turning and looking out into the ocean. When Kaeya speaks, she wipes at her face and then turns around.]
It seems that in private he was able to be more forthcoming. I would be most glad to report my findings to you, Mr. Alberich.
[Taking out her notebook and reading - ]
Mr. Hoover was on the Temporal team. A little while ago, he was approached by an angel made of dust. He was required to listen, but chose to accept the offer made to him. If he killed a member of the Celestials and helped therefore to keep order, he would be returned home faster and he would be able to help his friends at home. He was not told who to target, or given any way to discern their team. He chose Nine, not knowing he was also a Temporal.
Your notes are so meticulous, Susato... I thank you for that. Truly. As morbid as it is, one would think they'd be instructed already as to who is who. But perhaps that's part of the game still. Choose right and you're rewarded, if your knife lands wrong, then you're punished.
We're all punished.
This... game of theirs is not at all in our favor. But at least now we know that the intention, well, for some of these cases is not one of pure malice, but of desperation. [ qi rong idk bro but... ]
[ he'll find susato after they all depart from paying their respects to the pyre. there was... a good deal to take in with the sudden reveal of van zieks' death and the heavy weight of the missing lingering over them. still. he's restless, so he's going on another walkabout. ]
Miss Susato.
[ approaching, polaris at his side in wolf form, he gives her a nod. ]
I was going out to have another walk around the town proper... would you...? [ his voice drops a bit. ] We tend to scold those who go off on their own. Best to lead by example, hm?
[She offered to search with him, she did, and she intends to, so she will trail after him silently for a moment as though searching, too, though there's something cold about it. And then, after a moment - ]
Sheba was a Temporal, so Satariel was able to confirm it. She's dead.
[ kaeya pauses as the words leave susato's mouth. in truth, the search is really just a walk. it's a walk because the missing are regarded as evidence for tomorrow and it isn't right, the fact they're right under their noses.
she's dead.
polaris howls, low and soft. kaeya just turns with a soft smile. ]
I see. Well then.
[ his face draws tightly. ]
Thank you... for letting me know. What a day for us all...
[Ryutaro doesn't shy away when the wolf howls, flattening his long ears but looking back with a fierce gaze. Susato simply folds her hands and chooses to allow him the privacy of his grief.]
Truly. But that means we'll need to do our best come tomorrow. Like we always do.
[ polaris balks slightly afterwards, pushes his face quietly into kaeya's thigh as he whimpers, licking his teeth over and over again as kaeya smoothes a hand over his head. ]
[Susato can be found, dressed in a warm oversized sweater (Ryutaro's fuzzy ears are just poking out of the collar) with a little blood on the back of her head. She's standing outside the bar looking indignant.]
[ oh! everyone is very fuzzy today but also. very bloody yikes. kaeya is covered up today, wow! wearing a turtle neck in a dark color. polaris is in ermine form wrapped around his neck like a little white scarf. as he sees her, he frowns, glancing at the bar. ]
Who's giving you trouble?
[ he'll. gesture away from the bar so they can step out of view. better to tackle the problem this way. ]
Ah. Well, you see, I was preparing a care package to send to Sheba, since it seems as though they are short on necessities wherever they are. But then it occurred to me that Lord van Zieks will wish to have wine, and then it occurred to me that others there may have the same desire to imbibe.
Please let me help. I'd like to send Sheba a few things myself... And we can absolutely see about procuring enough libations for the group there if they've been left so lacking. I don't mind grabbing these if you give me a list.
Such conservative practices... [ sighs deeply ] how annoying.
I was looking at their menu . . . I'm afraid I know very little of what our friends might drink, but certainly some very fine wines. Father drinks whiskey and cognac, so I had thought that might do, along with some cider. And of course, akvavit is quite a traditional beverage local to the region. It is rather hard to come by outside the Nordic countries, so perhaps some of our friends are raring to give it a try.
What would you like to send to Sheba? I sent a variety of foods to be shared about, but surely a special message from you would be most pleasing.
I'd like to send her some coin or something she could trade off if I can as well. Some of her belongings if we can get them to her? Anything that could be useful or comforting to her... she...
[ he frowns a moment and blinks the thought away. instead he pulls out a small notebook from his back pocket and a pencil, beginning to write. ]
As for the menu... Wine is a staple most would enjoy, I think, so perhaps a red and a white would work, a sweet one, then a more mature one. I don't know if sparkling will hold once we send it through, but it could be a nice surprise. A sharp spirit is always good to take the edge off a long day, so whiskey is a must. Cider is mild, but very refreshing, and would be good for those who have a more delicate palette so you've already done well to select a variety of choices. [ he smiles at her, a proud nod! ] Akvavit sounds fascinating. I'll give it a try myself... and that would be a thoughtful addition.
[ he snaps the book shut ] I was raised on a winery, so I've a good mind for these things. I'll make sure to pick the best of the best for our friends afar... And perhaps a non-alcoholic option as well, for fun. I'm sure they'd like some coffee as well? If anything, they could trade it too.
Mm! I have included coffee, and tea leaves, and chocolates. As for trade. . . I didn't take any of Sheba's belongings save the fingerprint kit. I ought to have stocked up in Camebit on gold . . .
[Anyway, she listens to him discuss the booze.]
Were you really? Then you must have quite a palate.
I'm discerning, I like a good drink. I know Van Zieks was also fond so I'll see to getting something up to his discerning standards.
[ he rubs the back of his neck with a chuckle. ]
And there's a gift shop here too. If we're careful and not too greedy about it, I'm sure we can send them some warm clothes too and some trinkets they can keep or trade away as they see fit too. It's the least we can do from this side.
It is delightful! There are several different varieties of chocolate, ranging in flavour from bitter dark chocolate to milky smoothness and in texture from hard shell to soft mousse!
I have always adored sweets, but chocolate in particular - it is quite costly in London, and exorbitant in my native Japan, so I have only had it on rare occasions.
Then we'll just have to make the most if it during our stay here. And potentially grab some for the road as well.
[ he'll straighten up and glance over at the bar. ]
I'm going to grab a few of the bottles in an hour or so, then return for some more later, so that we don't garner too much ire for taking too much at once. I can have them to you by tonight?

[ polaris squeaks softly, head up now. ]

[She glances up from her work to admire the group of fish.]
. . . Because we are lacking in salt, I was making some from sea water. That way, we may be able to preserve certain foods for longer.

Gathering your thoughts, Miss Susato?

Yes. That was dreadful, wasn't it?

We've weathered quite a storm, and it only looks to be getting bigger by the looks of it.
[ shaking his head now. ]
They're cruel, these people who watch the Watchers and us both. [ acknowledgement: this bloooooows ]

Van Zieks would be appalled if we didn't. We can't disappoint him.
[ he smiles at her then, fondly. ]
Sheba most likely put up quite the fight, that's what she'd told me she would do... make them regret it.

Have you tried the chocolate symphony yet? You simply must. I am sending one of that to Sheba, as well.
